Family Law & Mediation

Family Law

_
Ending a marriage may be one of the most difficult decisions one has to make, even after it has become clear that a couple may be better off apart than together. It is not as simple as packing up and leaving, however. A number of considerations still must be addressed and agreed upon before a divorce can be finalized and a couple can finally go their separate ways. Although the decision can be a painful one, the process itself does not have to be with the right legal representation on your side. Our firm handles the following types of family law cases:
  • Uncontested divorces
  • Contested divorces
  • Absent spouse divorces
Additionally, our firm can help you settle common issues involved in divorce cases, including child support, child custody, and alimony by representing you in court or mediation. Reach out today to learn more about the options best suited to your specific situation.

Family Mediation

_

Litigation is not the only option a couple has when deciding to separate. Divorce mediation is a form of dispute resolution available to amicably settle various issues and avoid the associated time, costs, and adversarial nature of litigation. It can be voluntary and non-binding or court-ordered. Either way, mediation can be advantageous to all parties as it gives them an opportunity to customize the terms of their agreement so that it best suits the parties’ respective needs and interests.

During mediation, the parties meet with a trained mediator who assists with drafting legal agreements outlining the terms on issues such as child custody and support, alimony, and division of assets. A mediator encourages resolution by acting as a neutral party that does not advocate for either side of the dispute, and instead acts to remedy the dispute in a way that is most agreeable to all parties involved. Our attorney is a Certified Family Mediator who can assist with reaching an equitable settlement on these issues.
